Health Insurance

To make sure that all students can receive timely medical care when they need it, we require all students to be covered by a medical insurance policy that covers injury and illness. You have several insurance options to choose from.

Menlo’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

Menlo College SHIP Local Care Options

Health insurance is required for all full-time students attending Menlo College. Menlo is offering a plan to ensure that all registered and enrolled traditional students can have affordable, comprehensive health coverage while attending college so you can stay healthy and achieve your educational goals. You may choose to carry this student plan alone or in addition to another insurance plan as a way to offset high deductibles. If you do not waive this insurance, you will be automatically enrolled. Part-time students are not eligible for SHIP and must obtain alternate health insurance coverage.

For more information about the Menlo College Student Insurance, please visit www.menlo.edu/health-insurance. For coverage or claims questions, please contact Relation, at 800.537.1777 or customerservice.la@relationinsurance.com.

Waiving SHIP

If you currently have other health insurance coverage through an employer, spouse, or parent, and your coverage meets certain criteria that Menlo College has determined best suit the needs of its students, you may waive out of SHIP. You must complete one waiver per academic term. If you have proof of comparable insurance and wish to waive Menlo’s coverage, you will need to do so by January 26, 2021, by logging into: https://www.menlo.edu/health-insurance-waiver. Please note: your coverage will be verified.

In order to submit the insurance waiver, you must have access to your Menlo College email account. If you have not set your Menlo password or accessed your campus email account, please contact helpdesk@menlo.edu.

For more information about waiving, view our helpful Waiver FAQ here.

Any requests to appeal a waiver denial must be emailed to mfowler@menlo.edu by February 2, 2021 to be considered.  In order to be considered for a waiver appeal you must send the denial letter along with your primary insurance.

Independent Insurance Plan

If you require a more comprehensive insurance plan that includes well care and regular check-ups, you may wish to seek your own insurance coverage. Be sure to visit HealthCare.gov to find more information about coverage that is available to all young adults.

Local Health Care Resources

Staying healthy is an important part of being successful in college. To help you find medical care when you need it, we have provided the following list of health care resources.

As a Menlo student, you should establish a relationship with an internal medicine physician. Your primary care doctor will be your main point of contact for working with the health care system while you are here at Menlo.

To make an appointment, call 650.498.6500. When you call, indicate that you are a new patient seeking an internal medicine physician or if you would like to schedule a walk-in appointment.

If you are not using the Menlo College Student Insurance, make sure that the clinic accepts your insurance when you make your appointment. You can view a list of accepted insurance companies in the Office of Student Affairs or on the Menlo Medical Clinic website.
