New softball coach Kelly Miller

Nov 07, 2003

ATHERTON, CA –11/7/03- Athletics Director Caitlin Collier today announced the hiring of Kelly Miller as the new softball coach.

“I am thrilled to be offered this position,” said Miller, currently working towards her Masters Degree in Sports Management. “I am really looking forward to working with the team and the rest of the Athletic Department. I look forward to calling Menlo my new home.”

“I am excited about the addition of Coach Miller to our department,” said first year Athletics Director Caitlin Collier. “Her enthusiasm and professionalism will help achieve our departments goal of building quality programs.”

A 1996 graduate of Sacred Heart Prep, Miller moved on the University of Puget Sound, where she was a two-year member of the Loggers softball team. While a student-athlete at the Tacoma, Washington school, Miller was an Athletic Department Aid, where she, among other things, worked in the Sports Information Office.

After exhausting her playing career, Miller joined head coach Robin Hamilton’s coaching staff, where she spent the next three seasons, helping the Loggers to a 81-38-1 overall record, including a 39-17-1 record in the Northwest Conference. “I learned from one of the best people around,” said Miller of her time as an assistant at University of Puget Sound.

Recently, Miller was the head coach of the San Carlos Force Softball Club. Miller spent three seasons (1998-2000) supervising the Class B ASA fast pitch team for 15-18 year olds. She takes over the Oaks program after the resignation of Kyle Brumbaugh early this year.

Returning from Menlo’s 16-17 2003 team is junior third baseman, and Louisville Slugger / NFCA Division III All-West Region 1st Team member, Amanda Colon. On the team, Miller said “this season, I hope we all work hard to improve upon last season’s win loss record. I also would like to increase what we called at UPS the ‘fun factor.’ Losses hurt a lot less when you are having fun.”

Miller is expected to announce the rest of her coaching staff shortly.
