REDDING, CA - The Menlo College men's soccer team continue to be victorious against Cal-Pac opponents as they defeated Simpson College 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Cameron Lawrence scored a hat trick from taking only three shots on goal.
At the 20-minute mark, a pass from junior Adam Tiscareno made it possible for Lawrence to chip the ball over the goalie from 10 yards out. Five minutes later, Lawrence scored again, this time with a header after a misplay by Simpson, making it a 2-0 Menlo lead.
The Red Hawks retaliated back ten minutes later as Seng Ta Saechao volleyed home a cross from Gary Weaver. Simpson controlled the ball in the second half, but Menlo’s defense proved to be the key spark. To finish off the hat trick, Lawrence netted his final goal on a header from a free kick.
Jared Rust put the Red Hawks within one as he headed in a free kick from Saechao. The final ten minutes of the match were frantic as Menlo held on tighly to a one goal lead. A critical save by senior goalkeeper Jarin Beck preserved the victory as Simpson's Josh Shinn had a point-blank header in the final 15 seconds.
Menlo (3-9/2-0 Cal-Pac) has two days off before traveling across the Bay to play Cal-Pac Conference opponent Holy Names University at 3 p.m. on Friday. This game will be held on the campus of Merritt Junior College.
