Association of Division III Independents All-Softball Teams
ATHERTON – Menlo College third baseman Megan Pacchetti’s .395 batting average and .618 slugging percentage earned the freshman a place on the Association of Division III Independents All-Softball second team when results were released recently, while freshman pitcher Rochelle Joseph, who enjoyed one of the more impressive inaugural seasons in Menlo history, was also named to the second team.
Novato-native Pacchetti led the Oaks in virtually every offensive category this season, including average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage (.472), hits (30), doubles (7), triples (2), home runs (2) and total bases (47). Her .395 batting average is the eighth-highest single-season clip in program history and ranks third on the career list.
Joseph, a native of Riverbank, pitched 128.1 innings to tie the Menlo single-season record while her 98 strikeouts were second.
Pitcher Sara Stas of Cal State East Bay was named the association’s Pitcher of the Year while Chapman’s Jennifer Winford garnered Player of the Year honors. Stas batted .444 with 37 RBI and led all Division III players with 20 doubles. In the circle, Stas went 26-8. Winford posted a 12-5 record with a 1.46 ERA.
Chapman’s Janet Lloyd was named the association’s Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season. Lloyd led the Panthers to a 28-10 record and the program’s fourth-consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.
Mitchell College (Conn.) freshman Liz Roy batted .553 with seven homers, 50 RBI and scored 56 times to earn Rookie of the Year accolades.
The team was selected by a conference call composed of head coaches and sports information directors. The Association of Division III Independents consists of 19 independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports.
